The Humanae
Project

PUBLICATION DESIGN

OBJECTIVE

Design and produce a small publication/booklet. The purpose and scope of the booklet will be defined by the student and described in detail via design brief and book transmittal.

CONCEPT

Artist Angélica Dass created Humanae in response to the untrue labels “white”, “red”, “black” and “yellow” associated with race. Humanae is a project in constant evolution seeking to demonstrate that what defines the human being is its inescapable uniqueness and, therefore, its diversity. This project will exist in collaboration with TEDx Talks as well as Angélica Dass. TED seeks to give artists, writers, creators, and generally anyone with a story to tell, a platform to share their passion with. Dass is a relatively small and not well-known artist, but partnering with TED to share her work has broadened her reach and allowed for her to produce a book of her own.

The goal of this project is to create a printed object of Dass’s TED talk and highlight the work she put into the Humanae project. She believes her story and the idea of Humanae should be embraced by every individual and believes that having access to a print version would allow for more meaningful conversations. This book may contain original images, as well as images created by me in response to her TED talk.

The overall tone and feel of the project would be honest, transparent, and vulnerable. The goal is to shed light on the misconception of color and allow for the celebration of our uniqueness.
